About the TRI Racers

TRI has a very strong focus on group training for beginning and intermediate athletes.  Training in this manner is both fun and effective.  Attending races as a group is great fun too.

We welcome people who's goal is just to complete their first event.  Many people join the club and train with us before doing their first triathlon.  We have people that could not swim at all last year but swam strong and raced well in the Hy-Vee triathlon.  Half of our people have been in the sport less than 2 years.

At the other extreme we have several people that have been in the sport for over 25 years, won countless races, and even one that has placed at the Kona Iron Man World Championships.

Most of our intermediate and advanced athletes train for the long events but go to the short ones for the fun of it.  We have a good sized group of intermediate athletes training for Iron Man Arizona, Florida, or Wisconsin.  In the Marathon area we will again have a group going to Chicago with some of those planning to qualify for Boston.  Also the NY Marathon and of course the Des Moines Marathon will be well attended by Tri Racers.

TRI currently has members from Altoona, Ames, Ankeny, Altoona, Ames, Bondurant, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Madrid, Panora, Polk City, Story City, Union, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines.

Although we have a lot of triathletes in the group, we welcome athletes that are just focused on one or two of the three disciplines.   Runners find that they get fewer injuries and higher fitness levels when they cross train with us.
