Grandgeorge in St. George
The Ironman 70.3 North American Pro Championships are today in beautiful St. George, Utah. The TriRacers are represented by our very own Greg Grandgeorge and I will be providing live updates on this blog.
The swim waves go off at 9am CST so stay tuned and cheer on a TriRacer as he competes on a national stage.
A couple minutes before the event starts. To make you appreciate the level of competition there, Sebastian Kienle who regularly is featured in those Ironman TV coverage shows is one of the best in the world at the full Ironman distance. No idea how he will do at 70.3 but I am guessing pretty well. Cameron Dye, winner of a recent DM Triathlon race is more of an Olympic distance competitor but I am sure he has quite a bit to make the jump up to half Ironman. Should be a killer race!
*** Update ***
The Ironman site isn’t updating but I got a report from Kelly…Greg is out of the water and gave her a thumbs up. He is a little behind on where he thought he would be but not bad. He clipped on and is now hammering the bike!
*** UPDATE ***
My trusty app is updating and gave me a swim split of 38:15 for the 1.2 mile swim. He is just past the 11 mile first split point on the bike. Race Tracker has him at 20.31 mph pace and the 11 mile split was 32:30. Another stout bike start for Greg!
Wow, things took a turn for the serious so I stopped live updates. The weather kicked up and there was pouring rain and many athletes went down on the bike. Greg manages to stay upright and finish the bike but he battled hypothermia during the run and it was a real struggle to finish. But finish he did and what a hardcore, gutsy performance to be sure!
