3/7/08  The BIG-O ROAD TRIP!  The TriRacers are road tripping to the Big O Triathlon (Race is May 4th). Members who wear their new 2008 uniforms can stay in our hotel for free! We have an Italian dinner planned for Saturday May 3rd. One of our club sponsors, Krueger Chiropractic, is coming down to give free massages to our people.

3/6/08  New uniforms are ordered!  We again commissioned LG to make our custom uniforms. Thanks to Tompkins, we are selling the uniforms to members at WAY below cost. A two piece set is $60 for members. The set is $50 for members that purchased a TRI uniform last year.  This year we also have racer tops for ladies for hot conditions or just to show off their abs. See the new design here.

2/20/08 We are proud to announce Tompkins Industries is the new title sponsor of TRI. Tompkins Industries makes hydraulic fittings. Their financial sponsorship allows the TRI club to heavily subsidize uniforms for our members.

About the TRI Racers

TRI has a very strong focus on group training for beginning and intermediate athletes.  Training in this manner is both fun and effective.  Attending races as a group is great fun too.

We welcome people who's goal is just to complete their first event.  Many people join the club and train with us before doing their first triathlon.  We have people that could not swim at all last year but swam strong and raced well in the Hy-Vee triathlon in 2007.  Half of our people have been in the sport less than 2 years.

At the other extreme we have several people that have been in the sport for over 25 years, won countless races, and even one that has placed at the Kona Iron Man World Championships.  Our club workout leaders are very good at integrating training of different levels in a group. Our advanced athletes help our intermediates, our intermediates help the beginners.

Most of our intermediate and advanced athletes train for the long events but go to the short ones for the fun of it.  We have a good sized group of intermediate athletes training for Iron Man Arizona, Florida, or Wisconsin.  In the Marathon area we will again have a group going to Chicago with some of those planning to qualify for Boston.  Also the NY Marathon and of course the Des Moines Marathon will be well attended by Tri Racers.

TRI currently has members from Altoona, Ames, Ankeny, Altoona, Ames, Bondurant, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Madrid, Panora, Polk City, Story City, Union, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines.

Although we have a lot of triathletes in the group, we welcome athletes that are just focused on one or two of the three disciplines.   Runners find that they get fewer injuries and higher fitness levels when they cross train with us.  We regularly teach adults to swim.  We frequently take athletes from non-swimmer to strong swimmer in one season.
