Running With the Tri RacersFall, Winter, and Spring Group Running The Triracers run as a group Monday and Wednesday evenings. These runs are a great way to find running buddies at your pace. We meet inside the Ankeny YMCA lobby by 6:30pm to form pace groups. Runs leave at 6:35 sharp. Membership in the YMCA is not required. This running schedule is in conjunction with our triathlon training classes that meet October through June. The coordination with the triathlon training class means that we already have a critical mass of runners at a variety of paces. Most runs have a 10 min/mile, 8:30-9:00 min/mile and a 7:00-7:30 min/mile pace group. Typical distance for packs of beginning/intermediate runners is 3 or 4 miles. The routes are all on relatively new sidewalks leading to and through Prairie Ridge Sports Complex (park). Weather- We will plan to run if the sidewalks have been well cleared. This criteria means we run outside most of the winter. We have been averaging a dozen people in 3 pace groups even on frigid days. The ice in December cancelled 4 of our runs but when the sidewalks are clear again we will be right back at it. To stay in the loop for weather and scheduling cancellations, add your name to our Ankeny running group email list. About Running in the TRI club We have some serious and a huge bunch of recreational runners in the TRI club. In the Marathon length races each year we have runners doing Chicago and Des Moines. In 2007 TriRacers road tripped to Boston and Dallas marathons too. Our Membership director, Keri Frommelt is the Girls Cross Country Coach for East High School. She raced in Boston 2007. USA Triathlon Level II Coach, Mike Garton, helps our members by fitness testing them. The testing provides custom training zones and a quantitative reference to track improvements. It is our practice to have socials after most local running races. A large group of Triracers turn out for at least these classic Iowa running races:
