Des Moines to Host Ironman 70.3 North American Championship in 2020!
While Des Moines may have lost out on a chance to host a 140.6 Distance Ironman race last month (it went to Tulsa), it was announced on Monday that Des Moines has been selected to host the 2020 Ironman 70.3 North American Championship starting next June! The first half distance Ironman event is June 21, 2020 and will consist of a:
- 1.2 mile swim at Grays Lake
- 56 mile bike with rolling hills and flat roads through Water Works park, new roads in West Des Moines and Iowa countryside
- A 13.1 mile run that is said to be flat and fast, two-loop run course will begin at Gray’s Lake with the finishing chute on Court Avenue
This is another great opportunity for the City of Des Moines and strong, local triathlon community to host an outstanding event. It was announced that Des Moines will host the championships for the next three years. Click here to view the official Ironman website for more details.
As a preferred local Triathlon Club, the Tri Racers of Iowa will receive early entry. Join today to take advantage of this exclusive opportunity for 2020!
